Reading
Reading Scheme
At Ladypool, we work closely with parents and carers to ensure every child becomes a confident and fluent reader as early as possible. We use Letters and Sounds to teach phonic knowledge. In the early stages of learning to read, our children are taught to read using banded reading books including books from the Floppy Phonics reading scheme.
Children are provided with a reading book and reading record to take home. We ask parents/carers to ensure their children read daily for at least 20 minutes. Comments on your child’s reading can be recorded in their reading record.
Guided Reading, which is small group reading sessions, takes place daily for 30 minutes. In these sessions children are taught a variety of reading strategies dependent on their stage in reading.
Those children who have difficulty in learning to read are provided with extra support as early as possible. This may be one to one intervention or small group intervention.
Reading Workshops are part of how we get parents/carers involved in supporting their children with reading.
