OPAL at Ladypool
Ladypool Primary is proud to be an OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) school. This means that we endeavour to bring fun, physical activity, creativity and joy for our children every lunchtime!
In the UK, children spend roughly 20% of their time at school playing. That adds up to about 1.4 years of their primary school life! We believe that this time is just as important as lesson time for a child’s development.
At Ladypool, our OPAL play zones include:
-
Messy Cafe
-
Sand Pit
-
Large Loose parts construction zone
-
Performance Area
-
Wheeled Play
-
Creative Area
-
Swings
-
Water Play
-
Pirate Ship play equipment
-
Sports zones for basketball, cricket and racquet games
Information for Parents
We value children's play - whatever the weather. This means that children will play outdoors at lunch time in rain, sun, snow, wind and whatever else the elements bring. Please ensure your child is adequately dressed for the weather. In addition, as we do encourage our children to explore and play, they may come home a little muddy. To us, this is a sign of a great lunchtime!
“Play is the process evolution has come up with to enable children to learn all of the things that cannot be taught.” – Michael Follett, OPAL Director
