Spanish
Intent
Ladypool Primary School uses the Language Angels scheme of work and resources to ensure we offer a relevant, broad and ambitious foreign language curriculum that will excite our pupils.
In addition to the main scheme, we use resources and videos from the BBC Bitesize and Oak National Academy websites.
All content will be updated and reviewed annually to ensure progress and growth within each academic year
Implementation
At Ladypool Primary, pupils are taught Spanish weekly, for half an hour, throughout Key Stage 2. The lesson is structured with elements of speaking, listening, reading and writing in order to revise previous vocabulary and learn new one.
They will continuously build on their previous knowledge, using consistently the vocabulary for formal greetings, colours, numbers, days and months of the week, the main verbs for the first and second person, to be and to have and the classroom items. At the end of each unit, they will be assessed and they will also evaluate themselves using a form like the one below.
Impact
It is intended that when children leave our school, they will have a natural curiosity and confidence to explore other countries, cultures and languages, accepting that in a multilingual society it is a valuable skill to be able to communicate effectively with others in another language.
We aim to enrich our pupils' experiences through music, history and Spanish culture.
